Says you've decided, or agreed with someone, to do something: 가기로 했어요 (gagiro haesseoyo), "I decided to go".

  • Same form after any verb stem.
  • Usually in the past: 기로 했어요 giro haesseoyo, "I decided to" or "we agreed to".

Settling it together

With 해요 haeyo, "let's agree to".

그럼 내일 다시 이야기하기로 해요.geureom naeil dasi iyagihagiro haeyo.Then let's talk about it again tomorrow.

Keep the 기 gi: 만나기로 mannagiro.

It's 기로 giro, not 게로.

배우다 + 기로 하다, past

기로 하다 or 게 되다?

게 되다 says something came about, while 기로 하다 says someone decided it:

  • 한국에 가기로 했어요. hanguge gagiro haesseoyo "I decided to go to Korea."
  • 한국에 가게 됐어요. hanguge gage dwaesseoyo "I'm going to Korea." It worked out that way.

기로 했어요 or (으)려고 해요?

(으)려고 하다 is an intention, something you're planning or thinking of doing. 기로 했어요 means the decision is made:

  • 운동을 시작하려고 해요. undongeul sijakaryeogo haeyo "I'm thinking of starting to work out."
  • 운동을 시작하기로 했어요. undongeul sijakagiro haesseoyo "I've decided to start working out."
